Equipment

  • Bread Knife & Chopping Board
  • Non-Stick Pan & Tongs
  • Rolling Pin

Ingredients

Sandwich Roll Ups

  • 4 thick slices of Soft White Bread (see notes)
  • 1 tbsp Butter

Ham & Cheese (option 1)

  • 8 wafer thin slices of Ham
  • 3/4 cup / 75g finely grated Cheddar
  • 2 tsp Dijon Mustard

Peanut Butter & Jelly (option 2)

  • 4 fairly thin spreads of Smooth Peanut Butter
  • 4 fairly thin spreads of Jam/Jelly

Bacon (option 3)

  • 4-8 thin slices of Streaky Bacon, cooked to preference (1-2 per roll up)
  • 4 fairly thin spreads of Ketchup or Brown Sauce

Instructions

  • One by one, slice the crusts off of each slice of bread, then use a rolling pin to flatten. Add filling of choice then carefully but tightly roll up.
  • Add 1 tbsp butter to a non-stick pan over medium heat and add the roll ups. Rotate to coat in the butter, then fry until golden and crisp all over. Use your tongs to frequently turn them.

Notes

a) Bread - Really important to use soft white sandwich bread. Don't use firm bread (like Sourdough) or they won't roll properly. I also recommend staying clear of seeded bread for the same reason. I find bread on the thicker side rolls easier without tearing.
b) Fillings - There are a number of different fillings you could try, these are just my favourite. In general, my advice is not to load up too much, otherwise, they become difficult to roll and will leak out everywhere. You'll get the gist after the first couple of how much filling one can take.
c) Make Ahead - I don't often make these ahead of time, I find they're best fresh. However, if there are leftovers I tend to let them completely cool and then tightly store them in the fridge for a couple of days. From there, I usually allow them to come back up to room temp then reheat them in a dry pan or in the air fryer!
